Michael Hammond
Michael Hammond (born 1957) is an American linguist and professor at the University of Arizona. He was head of the Department of Linguistics from 2001 to 2011. He is the author or editor of six books on a variety of topics from Syntactic Typology, The Phonology of English, to Computational linguistics. He is known for his research on meter and poetics. He has also published more than 40 articles and presented at over 60 conferences on these topics. He serves on the editorial board of several major journals. Education and early career Hammond received his BA in linguistics from UCLA in 1979 and his PhD in 1984. His PhD thesis on phonology was published as part of the Outstanding Dissertations in Linguistics series. Peter Michael Hammond
Peter Michael Hammond (17 February 1941 – 17 September 2021) was a British entomologist who specialised in Coleoptera (beetles). For many years he was the head of the Coleoptera section at the Natural History Museum, London. After working for a time in China, Hammond was appointed to his job at the NHM in the 1960s by the museum's then-head Coleopterist Jack Balfour-Browne (1907–2002). By the late 1960s Hammond was appearing in newspapers as a Museum spokesperson for the Coleoptera section. Hammond's special interest area was the Staphylinidae (rove beetles), but he worked on all families of beetle. Michael Hammond (21 February 1990 – 19 July 2023) was a British professional ice hockey centre. Between 2015 and 2023, he played for 10 teams across the ECHL, Elite Ice Hockey League, DEL2, Metal Ligaen, and Oberliga. Hammond was also a member of the Great Britain men's national ice hockey team. Early life Hammond was born on 21 February 1990 in Brighton, England. As a child, Hammond and his family moved to Canada, where he played minor ice hockey with the Juan de Fuca Orcas. Career Junior Hammond began playing junior ice hockey with the Victoria Cougars of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL). With 98 points in 48 regular season games, Hammond led the VIJHL in scoring during the 2005-06 season and took the Cougars to a championship title.
